Consent to disclosure of tax return information
Federal law requires this consent form be provided to you. Unless authorized by law, we cannot disclose your tax return information to third parties for purposes other than those related to the preparation and filing of your tax return without your consent. If you consent to the disclosure of your tax return information, Federal law may not protect your tax return information from further use or distribution.
You are not required to complete this form. Because our ability to disclose your tax return information to another tax return preparer affects the tax return preparation service(s) that we provide to you and its (their) cost, we may decline to provide you with tax return preparation services or change the terms (including the cost) of the tax return preparation services that we provide to you if you do not sign this form. If you agree to the disclosure of your tax return information, your consent is valid for the amount of time that you specify. If you do not specify the duration of your consent, your consent is valid for one year from the date of signature.
This consent to disclose may result in your tax return information being disclosed to a tax return preparer located outside the United States.
What we disclose, to whom, and why
This consent covers one disclosure: your tax return information, to the outside services listed below, for one purpose, which is keeping your books and preparing and filing your tax returns. Each one gets only the part of your tax return information it needs for its job. One signature covers every service on the list.
- Cloud hosting: Supabase and Vercel. Supabase stores your books, documents, returns, messages, and account, on servers in the United States. Vercel runs the Goatkeeper app and the code behind it. Both handle everything you give us, so that we can keep and reach it.
- Reading and drafting software: Google (Gemini), Anthropic (Claude), and OpenAI. Their software reads your bank and card statements and transactions and suggests how each transaction is sorted in your books. It also reads the messages you send us, along with your books, to draft answers to your questions. A person on our team checks what it suggests and steps in whenever an answer needs one. They receive your statements, transaction details, messages, and the parts of your books a question is about, not your Social Security number. They may process it outside the United States.
- Bank connections: Plaid. For the accounts you choose to connect, Plaid receives which accounts they are and sends us their transactions and balances.
- Email and text delivery: Resend, Twilio, and Ready. They deliver the messages we send you, which can include your name, your business name, and short notes about your books or returns, such as a month closing or a document we need.
- Payments: Commas. Commas bills your subscription and any back work. It receives your name, email, business name, and the amount of each charge.
- Team messaging: Slack. Our team uses Slack to hand work to the right person. It receives your business name and short notes about work waiting on your books, such as a statement that arrived or a question to answer.
You can ask us to limit what we disclose to any of these, or to disclose less than your full records. Tell us and we will say plainly how that changes what we can do for you.
How long it lasts, and how to take it back
This consent lasts one year from the date you sign it. We ask you to renew it each year. You can take it back at any time by writing to goat@goatkeeper.io. Taking it back stops new disclosures from that day on; it does not undo ones already made. Without it, we may not be able to keep your books or prepare your returns, and we will tell you before anything changes.
I, [your name, typed when you sign], authorize High Leverage, LLC (Goatkeeper) to disclose my tax return information to each service listed above, for the purposes described above, for one year from the date I sign.
Signature: [your name, typed by you in the app]
Date: [the date you sign]
If you believe your tax return information has been disclosed or used improperly in a manner unauthorized by law or without your permission, you may contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) by telephone at 1-800-366-4484, or by email at complaints@tigta.treas.gov.
