Where your return stands, and signing it
Taxes shows each return and where it stands, from collecting documents to accepted. You sign the IRS e-file form through a link your accountant sends.
The stages
- Collecting documents: we’re gathering what the return needs.
- In preparation: your accountant is preparing it. Nothing for you to do.
- Ready for your review: have a look, and tell us in the chat if anything is off.
- Waiting for your signature: sign the e-file form.
- Filed: sent to the IRS. Acceptance usually takes a day or two.
- Accepted: done.
Signing your return
- When a return reaches Waiting for your signature, your accountant sends a signing link by email.
- Tap Sign the e-file form under Taxes, or use the link in the email.
- Read the return and sign Form 8879. We file as soon as it’s back.
You never sign inside Goatkeeper itself. The IRS has its own rules for checking who signs, so the link always comes from your accountant’s signing service.
Refunds and balances
- Each return shows whether you get a refund or owe a balance.
- Any refund or payment moves between you and the IRS or your state, never through us.
- Once filed, tap Download the filed return for the PDF.
